Rick shared also the concern that there be an increase in communication, and session has approved the plan of having monthly “Open Barn Meetings”. They will start with a topic that will then lead to discussion (similar to the meetings held to discuss Sean’s resignation).
These are intended as a way of providing input but will not be decision making meetings.
I will ask John Rankin if he is willing to lead one of these on the topic:
ReplyDeleteThe Biblical Love of Hard Questions, the Barn and its Future. I would give some biblical vignettes of hard questions and their power. And then, briefly, a proposal for a process whereby the church, in concert with the session, thinks out loud about who we are as a church, and thus, the ability to search for more easily, and see more clearly the pastor who is the Lord’s choice. I believe this would be highly energizing to the whole church, attractive to the recent diaspora, and well speed the process of finding our next pastor.
My suggestions for Open Barn nights would be these:
ReplyDelete- the Barn's mission/vision as discerned by Session
- the role of the worship service in connecting with newcomers or visitors
- how the PNC will be selected
